Just to say that I finally got through to the lovely people at the petitions office. They informed me that it's policy that no epetitions are started in the election period, so after thursday's election it will go live here http://www.freepetition.co.uk/cornwall/petition/savethetrawler Whatever happens on the second, whether the people of Penzance East place their trust in me and I am elected as a Cornwall Councilor and a Penzance Town councilor or neither I will still be pushing this and with the help of people in Penzance hopefully we can save the Alexandra play park's trawler from meaningless destruction.
I have started a facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/savealexandratrawler/
Stay tuned

We are writing to you as part of the NCS scheme, which is a program run by the government aimed at improving life skills and encouraging volunteering and working together within a community. Our team is based in Penzance and we are coordinating a community project to improve the Alexandra play park, particularly the timber trawler; a very popular and cherished piece of play apparatus. You may or may not be aware that it is sadly due to be taken down and removed by the council with no intentions of being replaced due to cost and the fact that it is so frequently used by the children which has resulted in it reaching the end of its economic life, which they fear could become a common occurrence in a result of its popularity. Personally we feel this is not the right attitude as the play park plays a large part in the community and would affect a wide range of people within in it. Therefore we are kindly asking whether a community member such as yourself you could help to play a part in our project in any way possible, be that by lending an extra hand to help built or paint, donate any spare, unwanted wood, paint or materials suitable for the job or even just being able to help point us in the right direction to achieve this worthwhile project.
ReplyDeleteWe would greatly appreciate any help you could offer us in whatever shape or form that may be. We are due to be carrying out this project between Monday 22nd July and Thursday 25th July. With a reveal on Friday that you are invited to attend if you kindly wish to play any role in this community project.
Feel free to contact us if you have any queries or feel you could help in any way possible: adam.vine@st-austell.ac.uk or 07817350590
Thank you for your time,
